Questions about Tinnimo and tinnitus

Short, honest answers. If yours isn't here, write to support@tinnimo.com.

What is Tinnimo?

Tinnimo is a tinnitus relief app for iPhone. It combines soft sounds made on the phone, a Relief button that is always free, sleep tools, 5 calm games, an 8-week course based on CBT for tinnitus, and 10-second check-ins. It has no account, no ads and no tracking.

Can Tinnimo cure tinnitus?

No. There is no cure for most long-term tinnitus, and no app can promise to stop the ringing. Tinnimo aims to make it less bothersome. Sound can take the edge off a hard moment, and CBT skills have some of the best evidence for easing how much tinnitus affects daily life.

Which sound is best for tinnitus?

There is no single best sound. Small studies found that white, pink and other noises helped about equally, so choose the one you find most pleasant. Many people like rain, a fan or brown noise at night.

Should the sound cover my tinnitus completely?

It does not have to. A common approach is to set sound just below your tinnitus so the two blend. A small trial found that covering it fully worked about as well, so on a hard day covering it is fine. Keep the volume comfortable.

Is it safe to play sound all night?

Keep it soft. Tinnimo caps volume at 60% by default, fades sound in and out, and lets you set a timer from 15 to 90 minutes or play all night. A 2021 review found very low-quality evidence that continuous noise improves sleep and noted it may also affect sleep and hearing, so a low level matters.

What does tone match do?

Tone match helps you find the pitch your tinnitus sounds closest to, from 250 Hz to 12 kHz. Tinnimo uses it to center matched noise on that pitch. It is not a hearing test, it cannot diagnose anything, and your match may shift from day to day.

Does Tinnimo use my microphone or collect my data?

No. Tinnimo never uses the microphone and has no account, ads or tracking. Everything you log stays on your iPhone, and you can export or delete it in Settings › Data and privacy.

What happens to my journal if I delete Tinnimo or get a new iPhone?

Tinnimo has no account, so deleting the app deletes your journal. Moving to a new iPhone with an iCloud backup or Quick Start brings it along. To be safe, save a backup in Settings › Data and privacy › Export my data, keep it in iCloud Drive or your email, and restore it later with Restore from backup. Tinnimo Plus comes back with your Apple ID.

What does Tinnimo Plus add?

Tinnimo Plus adds 6 more sounds, a 5-layer mixer with unlimited saved mixes, unlimited matched noise, all 5 games every day, the full 8-week Quiet Mind course, 4 more guided exercises, full journal history, insights and a one-page doctor report. It comes as a yearly plan with a free trial, a monthly plan or a lifetime purchase. If you cannot afford it, write to us for free access.

How do I cancel Tinnimo Plus?

Apple handles subscriptions. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Tinnimo and tap Cancel Subscription. Deleting the app does not cancel it.

Does Tinnimo work on Android or iPad?

No. Tinnimo is made for iPhone and needs iOS 17 or later. There is no Android or web version, and no version designed for iPad.

Do I need headphones?

No. Tinnimo plays through your iPhone speaker or any headphones or speaker you connect. Use whatever feels comfortable, and keep the volume low.

When should I see a doctor about tinnitus?

See a doctor soon if your tinnitus started suddenly, is in one ear only, beats with your pulse, or comes with dizziness, ear pain or hearing loss. If your hearing drops suddenly, get seen within 24 hours, because treatment works best early.
